Ukraine v Sweden

Sweden qualified for the Euro 2012 as best runners up. Ukraine must raise the bar quite high to be able to pull this one off; as their world ranking is only 52nd. Meanwhile, Sweden is 17th.

The game started off well in Kiev, the temperature was still quite high. As Ukraine are the underdogs here, no one expected them to even get close to scoring. In the first few minutes you could definitely see that Sweden were the stronger team, dominating the play.

Unsuspectedly, Ukraine were much closer to scoring a goal than Sweden. Shevchenko was the main player getting involved in the mostly on target shots. The first half ended there.

After half time the game really started. Sweden's Ibrahimovic saw a chance and a break in Ukraine's defence line, the goal was his. Ukraine were down by 1-0. It was then that Shevchenko's work finally paid off when he scored and equaliser for Ukraine. The co-hosts wouldn't just settle for a draw, they wanted more than that. They wanted a win to put them at top of the group table. The person to win that for them would be, yes you've guessed it; Shevchenko. In the 61st minute he scored another one. The crowd went wild. Sweden tried to make a desperate comeback, but it never paid off. The referee blew his whistle, and the dreams were over for Sweden. The game ended 2-1 to Ukraine.
