British Gymnastics (BG) is the UK National Governing Body for the sport of Gymnastics. It is a not for profit organisation dedicated to developing levels and quality of provision across a range of disciplines.
One of the world’s first sports governing bodies, BG was founded in 1888 as the British Amateur Gymnastics Association and is a member of the World Governing Body for Gymnastics (FIG), the European Governing Body (UEG), the British Olympic Association (BOA) and the Central Council of Physical Recreation (CCPR).
Gymnastics is an accessible and inclusive sport offering opportunities to all ability levels and ethnic groups within a range of controlled learning environments. It promotes an active and healthy lifestyle and is recognised as forming the basis for physical literacy by developing fundamental movement skills.
Interest in the sport has never been stronger. Hundreds of thousands of young gymnasts enjoy the sport in the school environment, take part in the recreational sessions offered at many leisure centres, and enjoy membership of British Gymnastics registered clubs that offer a complete development pathway from beginner through to Olympian.

Acrobatic Gymnastics could be described as an infusion of choreography and complex acrobatic skills performed in partnership on a standard gymnastics floor area. Balance, Tempo and Combined routines are performed to music. The floor area is 12x12 metres; Duration of the routines is 2 minutes 30 seconds.
Great Britain is one of the most respected nations in Acrobatic-Gymnastics and has achieved success at World and European level withmedals in all categories.
DisciplinesMen’s Pair, Women’s Pair, Mixed Pair, Women’s Trio, Men’s Four.
Gymnasts work in harmony and trust, each responsible for their partner or partners. It is a true and testing examination of human relationships. Routines impose on gymnasts a need for strength, agility, flexibility, balance and acrobatic skills. The results are spectacular, intricate balances performed on partners, exciting multiple somersaults and twisting somersaults with partners being pitched and caught. A requirement and opportunity to express their artistry and individual gymnastics skills makes this a delight for spectators, and a tremendous feeling of attainment for gymnasts.
