Does The UK Waste Too Much Food?

By Leah Booker

Recent news reports have shown that as much as half of the world's food ends up in the bin. It's shocking but true!

The Institution of Mechanical Engineers claim that most products of wood ware wasted because of strict sell-by dates, supermarket offers and fussy customers. This report also says that up to a third of vegetables in the UK did not get sold because of the way they look!

Poor farming conditions and poor storage is mainly to blame for food going to waste as well!

150 Years Of The Tube!

By Leah Booker

The London Underground (or the tube as some of us call it) is celebrating 150 years since it was first built! Many of us have been to London and seen how much some of us can rely on the tube to get us around. Getting to work and seeing family is only possible because of the London Underground for some of us.

The tube was constructed on the 9th of January 1863 and was the very first underground passenger railway in the world. It first carried passengers from Paddington Station to Farringdon Station and since then it has made over 3.5 million journeys each year! In fact, more than a billion people travelled on it between 2011 and 2012!

To mark 150 years of the London Underground Google are featuring a special search bar (a tube map) to their home page and Royal Mail has issued a new set of stamps to mark the occasion.
