Italy were off to a great start with Pirlo scoring the first goal, in the 39th minute, and putting them in a close lead. There were a few interruptions to the match; fireworks were thrown onto the pitch by Croatia fans. The game was stopped for a bit and then it carried on as normal. The Croatians were desperate to score and equalise the match. Mandzukic was the right man for this, he shot the ball right into the back of the net. Croatia were back in the game. The match finished with a very respectful draw, 1-1, for two equally good teams.

The yellow cards were issued to (Italy) Motta, Montolivo (sub), (Croatia) Schindelfeld.

Substitutions for Italy:
Motta ~ Montolivo
Balotelli ~ Di Natale
Cassano ~ Giovinco

Substitutions for Croatia:
Perisic ~ Pranjic

Mandzukic ~ Kranjcar
