Facebook 'may soon allow' under-13s to join the site.
Many children complain about the age rating on Facebook. Well, soon that might change. According to a US newspaper, Facebook may soon allow children younger than 13 to access the site if
supervised by their parents. The huge company is developing technology to link parent's and children's
accounts together, says the Wall Street Journal. If this takes place, it claims that parent's will be able to control which friends can be added by their children. At this moment of time, under 13s are not aloud to use this social networking site. This is because of cyberbullying, content that isn't appropriate for children, and risks of
contacting strangers on the internet.
Surveys say under-13s already use Facebook...
Ever since 2010, many surveys have taken place to look at the age of Facebook users around the world. The results were... millions of under-13s already use Facebook, some with their parents knowledge. Facebook are aware of the amount of people that use the site. For this reason the site has a page to help parents educate their children about going online.
"Children's safety had always been extremely important to the people who run the
site." A spokesperson said.
