Too Many Children Can’t Swim

Campaigners say that too many children are not being taught how to swim properly.

Swimming is movement through water using one's limbs, and usually without artificial apparatus. Swimming is an activity that can be both useful and recreational. Its primary uses are bathing, cooling, fishing, recreation, exercise, and sport.
Swimming is a VERY important thing to learn. As if one day you go down to the park with friends or on your own, and something tragic happens. Let’s say, you’re walking along the river bank, and you suddenly fall down a ditch and land into the water. If you can’t swim…Well, let’s just say there will be BIG TROUBLE! The possibility of drowning without anybody knowing! So learning how to swim is a big thing! You should start swimming lessons when you’re young. I learnt how to swim when I was 5 years old. So it’s best and vital to learn how to swim at a young age, or serious things could happen if you don’t know how to swim.

A report by the Amateur Swimming Association shows that one in three children in year seven cannot swim a length of a pool (25m). David Sparkes from the ASA says: “Swimming is the only subject on the national curriculum that can save your life.” Which makes sense, as things like drowning can easily happen. The Government says that all students should be able to swim 25m without help by the time they leave primary school. AT LEAST!
People who go swimming always tend to complain about little thingS. So here are some things you can use to stop those little things from happening so you can enjoy swimming without them bothering you:

Ear plugs can be used and can prevent water from getting in the ears.

Nose clips can be used and can prevent water from getting in the nose.Goggles can be used and protect the eyes from chlorinated water, and can improve underwater visibility.
Tinted goggles protect the eyes from sunlight that reflects from the bottom of the pool.
Swim caps can be used and keep the body streamlined and protect the hair from chlorinated water. Swim caps can also keep the hair dry.
Swimming floats can be used and swimming boards are used for training or exercise purposes.
Kickboards can be used to keep the upper body afloat while exercising the lower body. A pull buoy is used to keep the lower body afloat while exercising the upper body.
Swim fins can be used and are used to elongate the kick and improve technique and speed.
But what do you say about this? At what age did you learn how to swim? Post your comments below…
