London 2012 Olympic Games: Day 3 Round-up

China have once again dominated the competition in the third day of events, with Great Britain trailing behind after another disappointing performance. Last year's hosts continue to show unparalleled sporting talent with yet more medals to add to their ever-growing tally.

In the morning, China immediately got into their stride with gold medals in men's 10 metre synchronized diving and women's 58kg weightlifting. Another surprise win in the men's team gymnastics, where the USA scored the top spot in qualifying but failed to reach the podium. Great Britain's team placed third and gained a bronze medal; the first Olympic medal in this event since 1912. The USA took two bronze medals before noon, giving them an opportunity to overtake in the later events.

Despite efforts by the USA, China still lead the medal table. France are in third, North Korea in fourth and Italy in fifth. Great Britain have dropped down to 20th position.
