The second day of the world's largest sporting event draws to a close, and a more successful Team GB seems to be emerging. The host nation have won two medals in the last 24 hours; one silver and one bronze. Though still trailing behind the likes of China and the USA, it is encouraging after the somewhat underwhelming start.
Today's big surprise came in the form of Spain's 1-0 defeat in the football heat against Honduras. The European champions are knocked out of the tournament after also losing to Japan. Great Britain won their game against the United Arab Emirates.
Team GB managed a bronze medal in the Women's 400-metre freestyle, which was won by Camille Muffat (France). In the Cycling Road Race event, British athlete Elizabeth Armitstead came second to win silver. Andy Murray won the first heat of tennis and beach volleyball was also won by the British team.
China still remain at the top of the medal table, with the USA in a close second and Italy in third. South Korea are featured at fourth while France sneaks in at number five. Great Britain are now in sixteenth position, just behind Japan.
