The race to be the Mayor of London kicks off!

The three candidates. Left to right: Ken, Boris and Brian.

Boris Johnson, Ken Livingstone and Brian Paddick are battling it out to lead the 2012 Olympic city. With only 99 days left before the Games arrive in Britain, three men took to the stage last week to each explain why they should be Mayor of London.
Boris, Ken and Brian are taking part in the London Mayoral Election next month, so they appeared in a special TV debate for Sky News.
Boris has been leading the capital since 2008, and he’s keen to keep hold of his job. He explained how he wanted to improve teaching in local schools because, he said, “many of this summer’s rioters couldn’t read”.
Ken was Mayor before Boris, and he really wants the job back. He promised to give money to some young people in the city to help them get to school and college.
Brian thinks he deserves his first chance to lead London because he used to be a top police officer. He said this would help him stop riots like those last summer from happening again.
Nearly six million people can vote on who becomes the next Mayor, but who will win? With the election on Thursday (3 May) when London decides, it’s anyone’s guess!
