Bullying
Bullying is a very real issue that is often overlooked. Some people think that bullying is part of growing up and is a way of children learning to stick up for themselves. But this is very wrong. Bullying can make people feel lonely, insecure and frightened. In extreme cases bullying can take people’s lives. People also think that it doesn’t happen that often that is much more wrong.
In 2010 56% of teens say that they have, at one point in their time at school, witnessed bullying. A further 15% who don’t turn up for school say it is for fear of bullying. 1/10 students drop out or change schools because of bullying.
These facts prove that bullying is active and is affecting people’s lives.
Things can also get much, much scarier. 1/20 students have seen a student with a gun at school! Statistics also show that students who carry guns or knives are more likely to be victims themselves than those who don’t carry firearms.
In 2010 half of suicides were linked to bullying! Stopping bullying won’t bring those young children back, but it can save those still fighting bullies!
