Over £800,000 raised after marathon runner dies

Over £800,000 has been raised in memory of a marathon runner who died during the London Marathon on Sunday.

30-year-old Claire ran the London Marathon hoping to raise about £500 for the charity The Samaritans. Donations are now pouring in at a rate of over £16,000 per hour in memory of dead marathon runner Claire Squires.

Claire collapsed in Birdcage Walk, near Buckingham Palace. Despite paramedics reaching her within one minute, she sadly died.
Claire's family released a statement saying: "Words cannot explain what an incredible, inspirational, beautiful and driven person she was. She was loved by so many and is dearly missed by all of us."
It is very rare for someone to die while running a marathon. Especially if they are very fit and healthy. Claire was the 11th person to die running the London Marathon since it began in 1981.
