A New Swimming Pool Has Been Built In Dinnington!

Years ago, the well known swimming pool in Dinnington, Doe Quarry Lane was shut down due to 4 super pools that were built in Aston, Maltby, Rotherham and Wath. Lots of citizens and people who knew and used the pool in Dinnington started a huge campaign to save the Dinnington Swimming Pool that was being used regularly to teach children how to swim, and/or to get their skills better at swimming. Even I went and learnt how to swim at that pool! But thankfully I had already stopped having lessons there because I had already learnt how to swim properly.

Sadly though, despite a petition containing 1,600 signatures opposing the plans, Rotherham Council still shut down the facility in 2008.

Years pasted in Dinnington since 2008, still without any kind of pool nearby. People/children had been let down by the closure and had to move to a different swimming pool and start fresh, or had to quit swimming lessons and learn to swim a different way.

However, things have already changed! I bet only a few of you know about this... There has been a new swimming pool built in Dinnington, that once was a AN industrial unit! The swimming pool was officially open by Rotherham Mayor Coun Shaun Wright and Olympic swimmer Jack Kirton, who was the first to test out the new facilities.

The Aquafyn Swimming Pool will be predominantly used for swimming lessons but will also be open for members of the public to use too. As well as the 14 metre by 8 metre pool, there are also changing rooms and a cafe for the people who use the facility.

Members of Dinnington (or around the area), why not go and check out this pool for yourselves, as I am going down there shortly for a short session with my friends.
