The Olympic Torch Has Landed!

The plane carrying the torch for the London 2012 Olympics has finally arrived on British soil.

The plane touched down at a Cornish air base just before 19:30BST carrying Princess Anne, Locog chairman Lord Coe and footballer David Beckham. The torch arrived in style, on a Golden British Airways plane, called the Fire Fly, made especially for the torch's transport from Athens to Lands End. The flame was kept in a miners lamp during the flight to ensure it didn't go out. The torch has changed alot since the first torch was lit in 1928. Here are some of the torches - from left to right - Helsinki Torch 1952, Mexico City Torch 1968 and The New London Torch 2012

And Dinnington Comprehensive is very proud to have a  pupil and a teacher that will be doing their part in getting the torch to London.Pupil Jack Waring will be carrying it through Scunthorpe and was nominated by his mum. And our own P.E teacher Miss Abdulkarim will also be carrying the torch through Chapeltown on the 25th of June. She was nominated by her mum as she is the first headscarf wearing Muslim to play for England and to coach an England team.

And we are all counting down the days until the first London Olympics in 63 years!!
