A three year old child nearly died in his own home.
The pair took camera phone footage of the boy in the room of their council-owned semi house. A court heard the child was just hours from dying when cops rescued him as it snowed outside in Pontypool, South Wales. There was no heating, lights and it was snowing.
The child only had a Potty and a bowl and fork.
PC James Periam said: "I found the boy locked in a bare cell-like room." "His eyes were lifeless and he was ice - cold."
The child (who cannot be named) was rushed to Nevill Hall Hospital in Abergavenny for emergency medical treatment to save his life.
Doctor Paul Davies said “He was dehydrated and hungry. He even ate his own hair."
Brooks, 25, and Lewis, 22, of Pontypool, admitted wilful neglect of a child. Brooks was jailed for three years and Lewis for three and a half years.
Brooks and Lewis also had another child, but were taken into care and now are looking for a loving family.
