The Olympic Torch Goes North!

The Olympic torch goes north!

The Olympic Flame is a symbol of the Olympic Games. Commemorating the theft of fire from the Greek god Zeus by Prometheus, its origins lie in ancient Greece, where a fire was kept burning throughout the celebration of the ancient Olympics. The fire was reintroduced at the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam, and it has been part of the modern Olympic Games ever since.
The Olympic Torch has been passed around the UK for quite a while now. The Olympic torch has visited its most northern destination as part of the 2012 Olympic torch relay this week.
The torch was carried around Kirkwall in Orkney and Lerwick, in the Shetland Islands. A total of 40 torchbearers took part in the 29 mile (47km) section of the relay.
